Mr Paul Ward, Clinical Psychologist

Mr Paul Ward works as an Associate at Joondalup Psychology Centre.  Paul’s clinical experience is in the treatment of alcohol and substance abuse, eating disorders, and general psychological disorders.  Other areas of interest include psychometric (intelligence) testing of adults and children, obsessive and compulsive behaviour, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and the treatment of emotional distress resulting from events in early childhood.

Mr Paul WardMr Ward uses evidence-based and clinically proven therapies, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.  Paul always tries to fit the right therapy to the person, and therefore uses a wide range of techniques varying from mindfulness to existential philosophy.  His research activities have focused on social anxiety and the fear of negative evaluation, and how high levels of stress can affect mental health.

Mr Ward has a varied career history, including work for the Office of the Auditor General in program evaluation, and management positions for the Department of Environment and Conservation in enforcement and behaviour change.  Paul currently teaches personality theory at Edith Cowan University, delivering distance education to over 150 students.

Paul is a married father of two, was born and raised in England, and has lived in Perth for 25 years.  He enjoys working with a wide range of clients of all ages, Paul relishes the challenge of helping people feel understood, and helping them understand themselves.
